Advice For Disabled Wesbite Users
Our website has been developed with the needs of disabled and less able users in mind. In particular, the use of relative font sizes and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for layout ensures the full functionality of your browser’s accessibility tools.
Using your browser accessibility tools
All web browsers allow you to enlarge the font size of websites for greater ease of reading. This function is accessed in Internet Explorer via the view menu:
View > text size > then select either larger or largest
The main accessibility options in Internet Explorer are accessed via the tools menu:
Tools > Internet Options > Accessibility
This brings up a new window with three check boxes for accessibility options which allow the user to:
- Ignore colours specified on web pages and remove any background images
- Ignore font styles specified on web pages and revert to the default font style
- Ignore font sizes specified on the website (the HTML font size hierarchy is retained)
Please note that than all three options can be selected simultaneously, overriding all the font style, text size and colour formatting specified in the page's mark-up.
Pesonal style sheets
For users who require greater control over the appearance of the page, Internet Explorer allows you to use formatting from your own style sheet. Using a personal style sheet is of particular benefit to users who find a particular text/background colour combination enhances their ability to read text. A personal style sheet can be used to control all aspect of the page’s formatting including font style, size and colour. It also allows pages to be displayed in much larger font sizes than the standard text size tools.
